As the Vietnam War raged in 1969, John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono held two week-long Bed-Ins for Peace, one at the Hilton Hotel in Amsterdam and one at Fairmont The Queen Elizabeth in Montreal this was a non-violent protest against war and violence they wanted to promote peace around the world.
This protest was filmed than later made into a documentary movie named Bed Peace it was made available to watch for free on YouTube in August 2011 by Yoko Ono, as part of her website 'Imagine Peace'
Because John Lennon and Yoko Ono knew that their marriage was going to be a big deal to society and be very public, they decided to use this as a way to promote world peace. They spent their honeymoon in the presidential suite at the Amsterdam Hilton Hotel for a week between 25th and 31st of March, inviting the world's press into their hotel room every day between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.
The newly married couple just sat in bed, wearing pajamas, in John's words "like angels" talking about peace with signs over their bed reading "Hair Peace" and "Bed Peace"
