Theatre Workshop -29/01/18

Theatre Workshop -29/01/18 We began the day by returning to the 'shoal of fish' exercise and working in unison as a team, but this time when we were playing with the pillows we were improvising movements with the idea of sleep and a sleepless night filled with nightmares and uneasiness. During this exercise the song 'How do you sleep' by LCD sound system was playing to help us surrender ourselves and be fully committed to the action we doing. When the music started speeding up the entire company started creating really violent movements together like hitting the floors with our pillows and screaming. I personally found it intriguing how our subconscious and dreams are mainly linked with violence and fear, but i also felt like this exercise showed the vulnerable side of everyone in the class as we allowed our weaknesses to be shown. This violent movement allowed me to see that every single person has a violent side to them whether they display or not. In the exercise

Theatre Workshop- 22/01/18 W started off the day by going back to the misorgi exercise but in a simpler and quicker way but yet it was still as effective as when your doing the full thing, i believe that this is because we were really feeling it and even though it was shorter we were still dedicated to the exercise, therefore allowing our minds to be cleared and leave us feeling refreshed and ready to create Theatre. After cleansing ourselves and the area around us we all grabbed a pillow and lied around in a scattered way. We were instructed to make/imagine the pillows as something else and play with that idea, I envisioned my pillow to be a teddy bear from my childhood this idea helped me make certain decisions with my pillow for example, i would be very close to it and i sort of felt very attached to it and i wouldn't want to let it go. Slowly we came together and started copying each other's moves that we found interesting, while also responding to the music being pla

workshop lesson- 16/01/18

Workshop lesson- 16/01/18 As usual to start the day and get ready to play with ideas we went through the Misorgi exercise (cleaned the 9 holes and our performance space). After doing this cleansing i felt so much more refreshed mentally and physically I began to understand that there is so much more meaning to our physical beings and that sometimes we take our body parts for granted, doing Misorgi everyday before we start to perform just makes me more excited and fresh to think creatively. After we got into pairs to start thinking of our site specific piece, and the art we previously found at the Tate Modern, and how those specific pieces can be used to devise a performance that is based on a site. We then moved onto a more practical task where we were split into two groups and using only bodies we were told to create some sort of sculpture where your face and eyes were hidden, so it allows the audience/viewers to try and make eye contact with you but they had to work for it. I t

Tate Modern- The three pieces of art

Image
Tate Modern  When we went to the Tate Modern we had to choose 3 pieces of art that made us think of dreams and the subconscious these are the pieces i chose:  Bruce Nauman - Violins Violence Silence (1981-2) Neon tubing with clear glass tubing suspension frame  Information i found on this piece at the Tate: "Nauman often seeks to provoke a response to viewers. Here the words invite us to to make connections between them, both in terms of how they look as text and the possible narratives that could link them together. The candy colours and the buzzing of neon convey a sense of playfulness that contrasts with the uncomfortable associations of the words" I personally really like this piece because of the glow it invokes the feeling of a dream like state, of euphoria. The medium of neon allows for an eerie yet beautiful colour scheme but the harsh setting you see it in, draws you to a darker place as your dreams can sometimes. The geometric shape not usually fo
