The day finally came where we done our performance i thought that it actually went really well, in the beginning I thought that the audience would find it really hard to understand or keep up with what we were doing. But after the show because my mum came to watch I asked her if she understood the performance and the whole concept of it, and she said she did and she even realized that we mainly focused on the nightmares rather than the nice dreams.
Just like every performance we did do a run through in the morning where we realised we missed out some key things, like at one point we were all sitting down or standing up, so we had to decide before the show what we were doing just so we have some contrast and levels in everyone's movement. At first we were going to have the parents watch us doing yoga as we wait for the other performers to come from their site specific however we realised that if we do that it would break the setting and the calm atmosphere we were trying to create, so we decided to have the audience wait outside until everyone is in the room and stretching. Another thing that was suggested that we didn't put in the piece was having the audience to take of their shoes as it would add to the comfort and relaxation of sleep and dreams but we realised that some audience members won't want to do that and it might infact make them feel uncomfortable.
Another thing that we changed was when max is in the middle and he shouts "mummy help me" before we would quickly respond positively or negatively depending on how we felt. But as a company we felt like we should let max do that scene for longer because it is so emotional and powerful that we felt like we could make the audience feel something and its just a beautiful moment that should last and take its time.
I do believe that as an ensemble we all worked really well together in the performance and understood what each of us were going to do without actually needing to communicate it through words. Also i felt like our performance altogether was so real and raw that it became more effective, because we made all the scenes we weren't directed to them so we had more freedom which I really like as it made me feel like the play was really ours. We all imputed something no matter how small or big it was and in the end it really payed off.
However like every performance we did have some not as good moments, in our case i felt like some of our improvisation scenes were messy and crowded especially during the nightclub scene. Everyone was just very excited to perform and dance around that we forgot someone was actually watching us, we were a bit to involved with each other.
In the beginning of our performance we used stretched and yoga which created a calm and relaxed atmosphere for our piece, while also allowing us to warm up our bodies and muscles in front of an audience, which to me felt very intimate as i felt like i was revealing something i shouldn't. This is because as an actor the audience normally wouldn't see you warm up.
If i were to do this again i think We could of decorated the walls more because there were just random pictures and signs from last year, it could of taken away the atmosphere from the audience if they saw the pictures.
Also in the performance we used baby powder and we have never rehearsed with it so i think next time i would rehearse with every prop we are using because, it just made a fog of smoke and made everyone cough as we all inhaled it. Also one of our company Katie was allergic to baby powder and she didn't tell us because she didn't know we were using it.
In conclusion i really enjoyed our performance i feel like the majority of it went really well i have never had that much fun creating a piece of theatre, i liked being able to play and explore the different ways to do things and have them create the main performance.
